Re: Windows will not Boot Up

If nothing has changed with your computer, such as BIOS Settings, added more memory or replaced a component, consider the following. This sounds like you have a hardware problem, possibly bad memory, hard drive or both. Your startup/rescue disk could have a problem also. The first thing I would check is your hard drive, since you didn't mention any memory errors on boot up. You will need "Scandisk" on a bootable floppy. Run scandisk and make sure it does a surface scan too. Any problems it finds let scandisk fix them. Also, if bad clusters/surface areas are found let scandisk recover the data and move it and mark old areas bad. If it only finds corrupted files, you will need to re-install Windows. If scandisk finds no problems with your hard drive, you will need to run a complete memory diagnostic. If scandisk found bad areas on your hard drive and recovery was successful, remove floppy and reboot. Windows should boot up. If it does create a startup/rescue disk right away. If recovery was unsuccessful, you will need to re-install Windows. Also, it would be a good idea to run a virus scan after successful recovery or re-install.
