Disabling all startup programs, using msconfig, does help with many install problems, but you tried that and it was a good place to start. Try copying the TurboTax CD to a folder on your desktop. Then open the folder and click on "Setup". If this fails try booting up in "Safe Mode", hit the F8 key while booting up should allow you to bootup in "Safe Mode". Then try the install from the CD, if that fails try install from the TurboTax folder you created on the desktop. If both fail delete the TurboTax folder you created on the desktop. Goto C:/program files/common files/installshield , rename installshield folder by adding "old" to its name. Next reboot. Then try the install from CD. Whether or not the install is successful, delete the new installshield folder created when you rebooted. Then change the old installshield folder name back by removing "old" from name. They should be in C:/program files/common files/ . I used drive C:/ here but the actual drive could be different. The one with the windows folder on it, if you have more than one drive. If you need more help come back to this topic.
