I am using Windows98 and had the same problem and McAfee provided no support. It go so bad that I had to go to "safe mode" to boot up. I also have the "Firewall" software installed. From the 'safe mode' I went into the Control Panel and did an uninstall. I then ran 'msconfig' selected 'startup' and disabled everything except systray, explorer & scanreg. I rebooted and ran (it may not have been necessary) System Mechanic software and selected 'fix registry' and after restarting I logged on to McAffee, selected "my account" and downloaded and installed Virascan software again. This cleared up the "Incorrect VShield device driver version" and also cleared up the "an unexpected error has occurred" signal that I was getting with Outlook Express when working with e-mail. Hope this helps you. Sal
