Windows 7 uses a lot of resources. Visual Effects can draw heavily on your graphics card and memory. This is one solution you can try.
Goto "Start"
In search field Type "Performance"
Select "Adjust for Best Appearance"
or "Adjust for Best Performance"
Now if you would like to retain a nice visual appearance.
Select "Custom"
Then Select "Use Visual Styles on Windows and Buttons"
Select "OK"
