On a number of occasions I was unable to send an email with an attachment. It could be a picture, document or graphic, it didn't seem to matter. Why was I unable to send them?

More than likely the attachment was to large. Most mail servers (for both incoming and outgoing) restrict attachment sizes to a maximum of 10MB. Yahoo and Gmail are exceptions with limits at 20MB - 25MB.
