How does Windows File Protection work? Is it automatic or do I need to manually do something? Also does it protect all files or files of a particular type, can I choose the files to protect?

Windows File Protection prevents you or your applications from accidentally changing the core operating system files. This helps protect your system proactively and automatically. There is nothing you need to do.
