As of this date, there are six versions of Windows Vista; Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Ultimate. Each versions has its own requirements.

The minimum requirements are: 800Mhz 32-bit processor, 512Mb RAM, Direct X9-capable SVGA(800x600) graphics with 32Mb of graphics memory, 20Gb hard drive(with 15Gb free), CD-ROM drive.

The maximum requirements would be: 1Ghz 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 1Gb RAM, Direct X9-capable graphics with 128Mb of graphics memory and support for Windows Display Drive Model, Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, 32-bit-per-pixel color, 40Gb hard drive(with 15Gb free), DVD-ROM drive. As for the maximum requirements, doubling the processor speed, RAM and display memory, will give you a definite increase in performance.
