I have DSL and my internet connection was working one second and the next it wasn't. I tried ipconfig /renew and got the following message: "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation". I have tried the normal shut down and restart for cable connection and got the same error. Run NIC card diagnostics, card checks OK, network connection OK. Nothing works to fix this. I was even on the phone with my IP tech for four hours. HELP! |

Tell me about your system. Computer Model: Operating sys with service pks: Nic card: DSL provider: After your connection was up and running, did you install any software, hardware or update drivers? Providing this info should help locate the problem. |

Since Kaeli hasn't answered, I will give three possibilities. I will assume using Windows Xp. (1) First, your Internet Protocol for TCP/IP may not be set up for automatic selection of IP address and DNS. To check, go to control panel >> Network connections >> Rt Click Local Area Connection >> properties >> highlite Internet TCP/IP >> properties >> general tab and make sure "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS address automatically" are both checked. If not check them >> click OK and restart your computer. Then check your connection. (2) If they were checked, then your winsock file could be corrupted. The following link will allow you to download a Winsock repair utility. Down load it and run it, it will allow you to make a backup, a good idea anytime you make changes like this. Once you run it reboot and try your connection. http://www.cercurtiss.com/techsup/_download/WinsockFixForXP.zip (3) You may need to completely disconnect your DSL modem and computer from each other. The correct proceedure for this is: Turn your computer off, turn DSL modem off, disconnect computer from modem, disconnect modem from phone line, disconnect power from modem >> then wait five full minutes. Then plug phone line back into DSL modem, connect power back up to modem, connect computer to DSL modem, then power up computer. Then try your connection. |
